WELCOME TO THE
ORANGE SHIFT
SCROLL DOWN
Smaller footprint,
greater consideration
We’re not just creating a festival. We’re creating change through the meeting of music, community, and action. That’s why we’re committed to reducing our footprint and contributing to a greener future.
We test new solutions, reduce consumption, and think circularly—so that resources are used more wisely, more gently, and over and over again. At the same time, we collaborate with partners who, like us, are pushing sustainable development forward.
But we can’t do it without you. When you take the train, choose plant-based food, sort your waste, and reuse your gear, you become part of the movement that makes a difference.
Now, we are introducing a campaign to involve you, our community, to help us in these initiatives.
SEE ALL THAT WE DO
At Roskilde Festival, we are committed to driving the green shift. We have united all our initiatives focusing towards sustainability under one movement: The Orange Shift.
Sustainability at Roskilde Festival isn’t new — it’s been built year by year, through measurable action and long-term commitment.
ABOUT THE ORANGE SHIFT CAMPAIGN
Every step we take together is part of a greater effort to create a festival that leaves a smaller climate footprint and gives more back. Together, we can make Roskilde Festival carbon neutral by 2028.
The Orange Shift starts with you.
Let’s make Roskilde Festival carbon neutral by 2028.
SUSTAINABILITY THROUGH COMMUNITY
Through this campaign, we are introducing many small changes within the festival that aim towards helping the community aid the festival be more sustainable. These initiatives can be recognisable through the Orange Shift branding- a shift in Roskilde’s iconic design identity. It will unconsciously direct the people to be more sustainable and achieve carbon neutrality, slowly, but together.
There will also be a solar-powered digital screen showing a carbon footprint counter, keeping both the festival and the visitors accountable and aware.
THE CIRCULAR LAB
Since 2022, The Circular Lab has involved more than 200 young entrepreneurs in developing future circular solutions. The initiative is run by Roskilde Festival and the Tuborg Foundation, working together to give the next generation greater influence, accelerate the green transition, and inspire more sustainable behaviour in Denmark.
Here, entrepreneurs have the opportunity to test their ideas with a young and curious audience – in a temporary festival city where 130,000 people live side by side. It offers unique opportunities to gather knowledge and data on how solutions work in practice, or to stress-test them in a high-intensity environment full of unexpected challenges.
It’s not about finished solutions – but about experimenting and involving the audience, so ideas can be further refined. With your input, entrepreneurs can get closer to results that inspire new ways of producing, using, and reusing resources.

EVENTS THAT INSPIRE CHANGE
Through pop-ups in major spaces in cities all over Denmark, we are bringing the Circular Lab and its ingenuity outside the festival. At these pop-ups, you can experience the innovation firsthand, get inspired, and even help these projects grow.

Testing the future through partnerships
Since 2022, we’ve been directly connected to the Danish power grid in partnership with Andel. That meant saying goodbye to diesel generators – and in 2025, we’ll also eliminate bottled gas in food stalls.
With Carlsberg, we’re working to reduce the climate impact from production to serving. Meyer Sound, which supplies sound for our stages, has reduced their speaker power consumption by 20% and made their equipment smaller.
Through The Circular Lab, supported by the Tuborg Foundation, young entrepreneurs get the chance to test green solutions right in the heart of the festival. And through our Art & Activism program, we create a platform for artists and activists to spotlight the planet’s crises.
Recently, we have supported Denmark’s Nature Conservation Youth Movement FLOR, The Green Youth Movement, and The Climate Psychology Youth Association. What they all have in common is that they empower young voices and actions in the green transition.
